Beautiful and terrifying
Really insightful poem. I love it.
"In God We Trust" is a power-packed little poem that I was honored to publish many years ago via The HyperTexts.
I have been saying for decades that Tom Merrill is one of our best living poets, and he keeps proving me correct.

Profound and a delight to read
And all injustice end.
You start in diapers, and end in them, parents return to being babies in one way or another. Life is circular:
Only to end as they began,
Fragile freight of a circling hand
That flicks the feeble out in and in
And each back to his origin.
Best to aim for clarity.
